About the book Rainforests Forever - A New Home
I sometimes worry that as a species, we are losing the ability to empathise, appreciate, connect and even identify ourselves with nature itself. This is perfectly understandable since more and more children (and adults) are being brought up and living in almost exclusively artificial man made environments.
One night whilst lying in bed, I had a sudden idea that I should use and share my love of the natural world in a combined form of a book and music.
The creation of this book, was a long process! Firstly I wanted to create something that was visually unique as well as realistic.
I wanted the story to not only tell the worrying truths about why our rainforests are being cut down, but also to incorporate many human qualities such as resilience, empathy, friendliness and more. I tried to make sure that each picture would provide as much visual information as possible. This would not only provide for a fun and engaging visual experience but would also help the lesser able readers to enjoy the books meaning and purpose.
I designed the book so that it would take us on an adventure in which one would almost organically learn about the realities of deforestation simply by following the characters on their quest to find a new home. The various landscapes, which I have made entirely using real plants, soil, water, rocks maquettes with a combination of computer graphics, continuously change and echo the story line. Using real elements and creating life like environments I believe will help the reader to identify and empathise with the story and characters. In doing so, the reader will learn a vast amount about the rainforest as well as about many human qualities in an unforced, fun and powerful way.
Hopefully it could provide a stepping stone leading to environmental awareness projects.
The book song ‘Peace and Love Forever song’
‘The Peace and Love Forever song’ is a song about humans, animals and nature. Whilst composing this song, I tried to create a harmony/emotion that would resonate with the books ethos and philosophy. The song has a variety of sounds such as ethnic, classical, oriental, and sounds from nature. This would create a worldly feeling that brings humans and nature together into the same sphere so to speak. The lyrics, as with the book, tell the truthful story of human behavior and destructive activities whilst leaving one with optimism and hope for the future.
By combining this book’s message with an emotional response from the music the hope is that we come ever closer to realising it is still a beautiful world and that we must all take care of it.
